How can we Flow in life?

We inhabit two worlds: the external world and the internal world. The external world is continually changing and is largely out of our control although we may try hard to control it. It is the world we view through our eyes and beyond our self and the world in which we project our image. Our true self is what we have been referring to as our inner Monk.

Your Monk represents a reflective, self-observant and spiritual mode of being – your Monk is always with you whereas the ‘you’ that experiences the external world is changeable. Your job role might change, your relationships might change, your community and social culture might change. Whatever you experience in the external world is liable to change. You may experience happiness but it could quickly be replaced by depression because you are allowing your external world to influence your inner life. But your Monk can experience a deep and lasting joy and purpose whatever is happening in the external world because your Monk is the core of your internal world – the place from which insight, creativity and true joy are created. Your Monk is sensitised to the Flows of life and movements in the environment that we feel at a subconscious level.

It is an acceptance that life is difficult and sometimes painful and that you cannot hedge yourself from the risks of living.

Your Monk is well-equipped to help you cope with pain and suffering and to help you overcome the restrictions created by others and yourself about what you can accomplish in your life journey. If you allow, your Monk can take you outside the objections of your mind and help you temporarily to suspend your judgement about why something may or may not work out. Your Monk will sense the Flow and the energies of your world. All you need to do is trust this inner voice or instinct. Sometimes this will be easy and sometimes it will be hard.

When challenges come, the best way to respond is not through emotional outbursts such as anger or panic, but rather by accepting, perhaps even surrendering, to what seems to be happening to you in the external VUCA world. Then you step back to the Monk within and observe the challenge from a different viewpoint. Sometimes your
